The 1st International Summer School «Technology Transfer and Product Design» took place in Cēsis (Cēsis Affiliate of Riga Technical University) from August 18 till 22, 2014. The idea of the Summer School was to bring together early career researchers (Doctoral students) and entrepreneurs, and to provide a platform where they could work on finding new solutions to existing challenges.
The 5-day intensive training program was attended by 20 Doctoral students from Riga Technical University, University of Latvia and Tampere University of Technology (Finland). The challenges were provided by 6 enterprises ranging from development of measuring equipment for detection of snow volume and structure to a prototype of improved microscope that could reduce the time needed for obtaining test results.
The Summer School participants worked in interdisciplinary teams and received training in time management, garage management, prototyping, product design, creative methodology, analysis of customers’ needs, product lifetime and presentation skills. The training was designed to increase their theoretical knowledge and practical skills as well as to facilitate leadership and teamwork.
The Summer School 2014 was organized by RTU Doctoral School in cooperation with RTU Design Factory.
